DirecTV HR10-250 - 6.3 upgrade completed

My HR10-250 has recently been upgraded to 6.3-01-2-357. Here are some changes that I've found;

Startup - Initial startup screens had references to TIVO removed. You now get the DirecTV logo and a generic "Only a few minutes more" message.

Now Playing List - Groups (Folders) can be enabled. Finally!!!

Wishlist Search was added to "Pick Programs To Record" Menu.

Adding/changing items in the To Do List seems to be quicker than it used to be.

Mine does not have the update yet. V6.3 is quite the talk around the Tivo and Directtv worlds. I read that the update rollout has been put on "pause" because of problems with programming on 2 sats. They were to have all updated by Oct. 4(hearsay), but have not heard if that has changed.

Also, some have reported operational problems with their 10-250's, and are obviously blaming the new software. It could be the new software, or it could be that they haven't gone back thru their setup menu and changed back some of the defaults.

So raff, let us know how you like the new update and if you have any problems since it was installed.

Is your 10-250 plugged into a phone line? Remember the unit has to dial out and request the update, which then comes down over the sat.


I do like the new update. Seems like it works quicker than it used to, especially with the "To Do List." I love having folders.

Yup, it has the phone line plugged in and has been making all the calls. D* just hasn't sent me the update yet. :(

Still no update for me. And from what I've read of the audio dropouts, maybe that is a good thing. Raff, how bad are they? Should I unplug my phone line for a while? :roll:

Well, it's become a bit of a trade-off. Increased speed in the guide and the addition of folders, versus occasional audio drop-outs. I've only experienced them during FOX Football via OTA (maybe 2 or 3 times per game, lasting about 5 seconds each) and once during CSI on CBS OTA. I can't speak for other people, but it seems to only happen to me on DD5.1 broadcasts.

Finally got my upgrade and the box promptly locked into the 480i mode and did not let me switch out manually. Had to reboot, but other then that, it's been problem free. I love the folders and best off all, it seems to have cured the long delays in setting tthe box to record programs.

One thing does seem to be different. The time slip (forward/back) on the second and third speeds of the FF is greater then it had been. Too bad, as I had it down to a science.

Got mine too. Had a few audio drops on Fox OTA for about 5sec. Seems to be only in the first two or three minutes of tuning the channel. Both with DD5.1 and not. That has been the only problem so far. Not that big a deal to me, as I don't watch much Fox anyway.

I agree. Nothing worse than having to retrain a thumb. :)

I have the most problems with ABC on D*. Video dropouts too often on their shows. I recorded Boston Legal, so that will be the first test of this new upgrade in that respect, although I'm thinking that this is an ABC-D* issue and not one on my end. I'll watch it later today and report back.

Apparently a 6.3b update is on it's way out to fix the bugs.
