I need some assistance with a problem that I recently encountered with my TV. I've got a 34" widescreen Sony HDTV kv-34hs420. Tube TV picture (in High Def.) is still the best picture in my book. Anyway, i notice several very small scratches on the glass today. Can't see them when the TV is on, only when it is off and when you are looking very closely at the right angles. Not sure how they got there and I want to know if there is anyway I can remove them. I can't believe that this happened when I wipe the screen off. This has never happened on any other TV i own. Very strange. Hope someone can help me. Thanks

The only way you get them out is by buffing the glass with an extremely fine compound for polishing - if it is in the glass. Bear in mind that what you are actually doing is removing glass around the scratch to bring both surfaces to the same level. If minor, likely not a concern but buffing out deep scratches can create a subtle optical distortion effect.
There is the possibility of an optical coating that has been scratched - likely due to paper towels and chemical based cleaners such as Windex. Nearly all paper towels are coarse and scratchy. Job Squad is one of the few that can work or a soft cotton cloth. Recommend fluids that do not have chemicals such as a bit of Palmolive with lots of water or window cleaners designed for squeegee tools - what I use not only in the field but recently through out the house.
I read somewhere that a small amount of toothpaste (?!) can take scratches out of the glass on a TV. Anybody else heard this? I also heard that if the anti-glare coating is scratched, the entire coating can be removed. Not sure on how to accomplish this. Not sure what the motivation would be either.

Toothpaste can work... yes, you could remove the coating although I am not sure how you would do it - would need to be a chemical or something that is not abrasive.

I'm still "green" enough to love a more detailed explanation. For example, what is squeegee cleaning fluid and where do you find it?

You go to home Depot, go to the squeegee department, you will find squeegee cleaning fluid for cleaning your windows. Maybe I am using the wrong term, cleaning fluid... it's a bottle of cleaner for cleaning outside windows that is biodegradable, no chemicals, won't destroy the rubber blade of the squeegee...
