All rear projection displays have one or more lens and mirror that will collect dust over time diminishing image quality. The effect is degraded clarity and dynamic range or loss of good blacks. All will need a cleaning at some point and when is directly related to the environment your product operates in. A reasonable time frame is every 1-4 years. Tobacco use and candle burning will require this service more often, every 6 months to 2 years. ISF clients typically get a cleaning every 1-2 years.
Acquiring access can be from the simplistic to complex. No matter what some disassembly will be required. A service manual would be helpful and only you know whether or not you are capable of the task. For those who get access you should use basic methods for cleaning any optical product. Paper towels for the most part are too abrasive. You are looking for a clean soft lint free cloth and fluids that are chemical free since you will be cleaning optical coatings rather than the optical glass surface. It is not the purpose of this post or site to assist you in this and we recommend you contact either an ISF calibrator who can also calibrate the display along with this service or a TV service center.
