To improve the situation, Tracy makes it his mission to help Derrick woo his dream girl Simone (guest star Stevanna), until he and his 7-year-old son Jimmy (Bobb'e J. Thompson) see her in the flesh and determine that she is out of Derrick's league. Meanwhile, Tracy is frustrated by the mechanics at his shop (Heavy D and John Witherspoon) when they do work for a customer (Katt Williams) who prefers barter to cash payment.

In the season premiere, a frazzled Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) returns from his harrowing mission to the Congo only to be confronted by a hostile Abby (Maura Tierney) while an exotic new British medical student (Parminder Nagra, "Bend It Like Beckham") causes a stir when she unexpectedly helps a patient -- and angers Dr. Chen (Ming-Na) as Dr. Pratt (Mekhi Phifer) flirts with her. In addition: a concerned Dr. Pratt works the margins to help an HIV-infected patient obtain the necessary medical insurance; a woman and her young children are treated after their wrecked car is struck again by a large truck; construction workers add to the chaos of the emergency room; Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) sports a new look -- and Carter gets an ominous call from Africa. Laura Innes, Alex Kingston, Sherry Stringfield, Sharif Atkins also star.

On New Year's Day, Discovery HD Theater will offer the only nationally televised live high definition broadcast of the 2004 Tournament of Roses Rose Parade from Pasadena, Calif. No more grainy pictures and crackly commentary .. in HD, viewers across the nation will see every petal on those famous floral floats! Live broadcast is New Year's Day from 11 am to 1:30 pm (ET), with a pre-parade show from 9 - 11 am (ET).

And Christmas week, dinos will be on tap with a special programming feature called "HD in the BC." A New York City playgirl (Audrey Hepburn) is courted by a young writer (George Peppard) but they're kept apart by their more lucrative relationships in director Blake Edwards' sparkling adaptation of Truman Capote's novella. The film won two Academy Awards for Henry Mancini's hauntingly lovely music.
