Fourth Consecutive Season CBS Has Broadcast Majority Of Primetime Schedule

In HD As Network Continues To Lead The Industry

NEW YORK, August 28, 2002 -- CBS Television announced today that it will offer all 18 of its primetime comedies and dramas in High Definition in the upcoming 2002-2003 television season. This is the fourth consecutive year CBS has broadcast the majority of its primetime schedule in HD, and the second season that it has offered all of its scripted entertainment series in the HD digital format.

Zenith Electronics Corporation has expanded its sponsorship presence in its second year as a CBS Primetime HD sponsor. Samsung Electronics America, which has a history of supporting HD broadcasts of movie nights and college sports, is a new CBS Primetime sponsor.

Together with selected CBS SUNDAY MOVIES, weekday broadcasts of the No. 1 daytime drama THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and CBS Sports’ leading HD schedule, CBS will provide an average of nearly 27 hours of HD programming per week this fall, more than any other broadcast network.

"CBS is proud of its continuing leadership role in bringing HDTV to American viewers, in prime time, in sports and in daytime," said Martin D. Franks, Executive Vice President, CBS. "We are pleased to partner with Zenith and Samsung to make this transforming viewing experience possible for our growing High Definition audience."

"Zenith is proud to be CBS’s lead primetime HDTV sponsor for the 2002-03 season. This alliance builds on CBS's leading role in HDTV programming and Zenith's HDTV technology leadership as developer of the U.S. digital television broadcast standard," said T.J. Lee, President and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith. "Sponsoring CBS HDTV programming continues to be an important component of our HDTV-centric advertising program."

"CBS is a leader in offering over-the-air HD digital broadcasts making them an ideal partner for Samsung," said D.J. OH, President and CEO for Samsung Electronics America. "Samsung is taking a leadership position in educating the public about HD benefits and making HD an affordable prospect for consumers with our direct view TV products and HD set-top box receivers."
