Re: HDTV Expert - Attention, All Cord-Cutters!One thing that still has to be decided, re: "Cord Cutting", is what do you do with all the content available on the web? Every time one of these magic boxes is mentioned, something is said about a subset of Internet-connected app(s). Since there are as many possible apps out there (almost) as there are people to use them, Who's going to step up and provide a box that a) is a DVR, b) receives OTA transmissions and c) is capable of allowing the user to find any web-based content - streaming or otherwise - and then watch/listen to it in the user's home. I realize the complexity of that because I own a Google TV/Sony Blu-ray player, and lots of Internet content is not available to me - in fact I just lost another the First Of September when ESPN launched a new streaming service that overlays ESPN3. ESPN3 worked just fine through Google TV. WatchESPN doesn't. I only get a black rectangle where the picture should be. ESPN says I shouldn't expect to watch their streaming on anything but a computer! What kind of silliness is that? I don't want to sit at a desk to watch any "television" picture, whether or not it comes from the web. That goes for all the services currently available. I know there are ways to connect a computer to a TV set with an HDMI cable - as long as the TV set has an HDMI input. Mine doesn't. I have a way around that, but trying to connect a computer through my setup is not the most pleasant thing to look forward to.
When the "universal web player" is introduced, then cord-cutting will become the big deal all the pundits think it is now. Mike Richardson
